Optimal conditions for growing cannabis: light, temperature, humidity

Andreas Leschke

Growing cannabis requires careful control of environmental conditions to ensure healthy plants and a bountiful harvest. Light, temperature, and humidity play a crucial role. In this article, we'll take a closer look at the optimal conditions for growing cannabis.

Light:

  1. Lighting: Cannabis plants require plenty of light for healthy growth and optimal flowering. Indoor cultivation can use high-performance LED lamps, high-pressure sodium (HPS) lamps, or fluorescent lamps to mimic sunlight. The light intensity should be approximately 18 hours per day during the vegetative phase and approximately 12 hours per day during the flowering phase.

  2. Light spectrum: The light spectrum influences plant growth and development. During the vegetative phase, cannabis plants prefer bluish light (more in the blue spectrum), while during the flowering phase, they prefer red light (more in the red spectrum). High-quality LED lamps often allow the light spectrum to be adjusted according to the different growth phases.

Temperature:

  1. Daytime and nighttime temperatures: The ideal daytime temperature for cannabis is between 21°C and 29°C, while the nighttime temperature should be between 18°C and 24°C. A consistent temperature range promotes healthy growth and prevents stress for the plants.

  2. Air circulation: Good air circulation is important for even temperature distribution and controlling humidity. Fans can be used to circulate the air in the grow room and prevent stagnation.

Humidity:

  1. Vegetative phase: During the vegetative phase, cannabis plants prefer higher humidity levels of approximately 40% to 70%. Higher humidity promotes plant growth and development.

  2. Flowering phase: During the flowering phase, the humidity should be reduced to about 40% to 50% to reduce the risk of mold growth and other problems, especially when the flowers become denser.

It's important to regularly monitor environmental conditions and adjust them as needed to ensure optimal growth and development of cannabis plants. By paying attention to light, temperature, and humidity, you can achieve the best results in cannabis cultivation.
